In honour of World Book Day, 3rd March 2011, I recently visited lots of lovely schools.
Huge thanks to the staff and students of West Exe Technology College, Dawlish Community College, Coombeshead College and Newton Abbot College for making me so welcome and sharing your writing with me, as well as your opinions on various books… and so many great questions!
Thanks also to Joanne Wilson and Devon Libraries for inviting me to host a writing workshop at Newton Abbot Library at the end of February. I loved the stories everyone came up with and I hope I’ll get to see how some of them develop!
Some of my visits were mentioned in the Herald Express, 8th March 2011.
Here’s part of the report from Newton Abbot College:
A Wonderful World Book Day
Newton Abbot College library staff Jo Slade and Emma Reed arranged a fun packed day of activities for students on World Book Day (Thursday 3rd March). For the fourth year running, local author for teenagers Luisa Plaja, came in for most of the day. She gave a formal talk, played a group story telling activity and then ate in the library in the informal event called “Lunch with Luisa”! Poor Luisa found it hard to eat her sandwich as so many questions were fired at her by very enthusiastic fans and budding writers. Year 8 student Dylan Rudling said “It was really exciting to meet a real life author and to see how they juggle their every-day lives.”
And here I am with awesome Amber from Newton Abbot College:
